Abstract

Nowadays, Performance management in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has been done in the form of performance evaluation and in an informal way and often comes with the purpose of monitoring and control; while the performance management system may improve knowledge, skills and capabilities of employees and increase permanence of workforce quality. The aim of this study is to prepare the ground for designing performance management system to enhance the efficiency of employees and the effectiveness of SMEs. Qualitative research methodology, based on thematic analysis, using semi-structured interviews was conducted in Amin Investment Bank. Sample-making was based on theoretical method and snowball technique has been carried out on the basis of 12 interviews with VPs and experts. Results identify a comprehensive set of challenges in performance management system in terms of nine conceptual codes and 100 open codes.
