Designing a Competency Model of Innovation Cores Managers in Organizations with Complex Products and High Technology

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the key dimensions and required competencies components for innovation cores managers in organizations with complex products and high technology and analyzing these managers’ competencies development mechanisms. Finally we provided a conceptual model of competency for innovation cores managers in these organizations. This research is a mixed-method research. We used interviews with experts to collect data (in-depth interviews and expert panels). We applied thematic analysis to analyze data and used the survey method with the questionnaire to validate the model. Our study highlighted that the because of innovation cores in organizations with complex products and high technologies, these managers as well as the necessary competencies should have some other competencies include research and development policy, system configuration and integration. Some competencies of managers have more importance for these areas such as Futures studies (futurology), Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization. Our study results include identifying, collecting, extracting portfolio and presenting a comprehensive model of required competencies for current and future managers of innovation cores managers in organizations with complex products and high technology. Although this model can be used for all manufacturing organizations, bu its main focus is on organizations with complex products with high technology. These organizations are mainly placed in large organizations group. Innovation in this research is to design competency model with specified dimensions for innovation cores managers.
