New Product Development Program Management Capability in Open Innovation Environment (Case Study: Space Industry)

Abstract

This article focused on recognizing the program management capabilities in open innovation environment. When organizations use open innovation and networks for their programs and projects, they need to acquire and promote new capabilities for managing their programs. With these capabilities, they can earn more success in new product development (NPD) programs. Without access to these capabilities, new circumstance may cause a negative effect on organization performance and success. For recognizing program management capabilities in Iranian airspace organization we use Grounded Theory (GT) method by Theme analysis and tree stage coding include open coding, axial coding and selective coding with use of Atlas.ti software. The most capabilities we recognized, divided to eight categories: incorporation and change management: break, definition and delivery of project; knowledge and technology managetnent; strategy formulation and outsourcing; contract and claim management; network management; budgeting and procurement; and communication program. Mentioned capabilities moreover general capabilities required on new product development (NPD) and must develop and enhance these capabilities in open innovation environment.
