Abstract
Innovation is a key factor in transition into the defense industries new era. Although, innovation success in defense industries depends on many factors. Previous studies have mentioned many factors contain of individual, organizational & environmental ones, which affect innovation success. Although all of these factors are important, some researcher emphasis on importance of organizational factors, while due to the technology based nature of defense industries, other researches emphasis on the importance of individual factors. In this study, after explaining innovation success dimensions and components, we identify individual influencing factors. Then with the help of 13 defense experts, we try to refine the factors according to the field. In the next step, by the means of surveying methods, we study individual factors impacts on radical and incremental innovation. Our research results show that seven of nine individual factors have a meaningful impact on innovation success, while the ranking and priority of these factors differ in radical and incremental innovation. In addition, according to this study, based on the importance, the three main component of innovation success in defense industries are opportunity creation for future wars, responding to army current needs, and gaining economical profits.
